Ronald McDonald Sensory room (Snoezelen) at YOKUK

The main target population of YOKUK is CP (cerebral palsy) and any kind of mental retardation. In both disorders there occurs a development delay. Most of those children didn’t have the chance or means before to get a decent therapy. Because of this lack of therapy the physical, mental and social conditions of the children are very poor. They are mostly left the whole day on the ground in the main area of the house without having any support or stimulation of the parents. With the stimulation of the senses they can learn to use motor skills like reaching things, grabbing, coming to the middle line with both hands, work bilateral, turning head when they hear noises or see lights, rolling, crawling, relaxing the muscles.

Stimulation can also increase the mental area like recognizing shapes, colors, materials, etc. Also for the proprioception, kinesthesia and body knowledge the snoezelroom would be the perfect therapy room.

Off course the snoezelroom must be a place where clients can come to relax and feel free and safe. We support the holistic vision because we truly believe that a person can only develop if he feels well physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.
